The Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) at Deakin University comprises more than 300 researchers (academic staff and HDR students), boasting a range of world class facilities and research activities, based in Geelong and Melbourne. The University has a pouch cell prototyping laboratory named Battery Technology Research and Innovation Hub (BatTRIHub) capable of producing and testing prototypes using new materials.
The University also has capabilities in materials design (electrode and electrolytes) for energy storage towards safer and sustainable technologies, and since 2018 we have been working on battery recycling, and second life as well as materials and metals (Nd, Co, Ni, Li) recovery using electrochemical and non-hazardous methodologies.
